Attorneys who rely on the mandatory forms when drafting Parenting Plans
risk setting up their clients for trouble down the road. Although the
mandatory forms are sufficient in most cases for most situations, they
do not consider many common and foreseeable situations that arise for
parents after entry of a Parenting Plan. This CLE will walk you through
how to customize a Parenting Plan that best suits your clients’
needs, including providing some suggested terminology which is not contained
in the pattern forms. Topics covered will include drafting terms for passports,
travel (domestic and international) dual national parents and children,
decision-making language to consider for parents who cannot adequately
communicate, and suggested alternative dispute resolution terms.
