For Willa Staats, family law is about more than legal disputes. It's about people, their complexities, and helping them find their footing during life's most challenging transitions. With a sharp analytical mind, genuine curiosity, and a talent for untangling complicated financial matters, Willa brings both determination and humanity to her practice.
Her interest in the law began early. Growing up in Austin, Texas, Willa watched her mother, a respected child abuse prosecutor, devote her career to advocating for others. Inspired by that example, Willa pursued law and discovered her passion for family law, where she could combine complex legal problem-solving with meaningful personal advocacy.
"What drew me to family law is how personal it is. You're not just solving a legal problem. You're helping someone navigate so many different parts of their life."
Willa has handled more than 150 family law matters, including high-asset divorces involving estates valued at up to $100 million. Her experience includes complex property division, asset tracing and valuation, child custody disputes, protective orders, and interstate and international family law matters.
She's particularly passionate about helping clients who feel unheard or overwhelmed by complicated finances. Whether investigating assets, asking difficult questions, or negotiating a resolution, Willa works to ensure her clients have both answers and a voice in their future.
“I like digging into the details, asking the questions no one else has asked, and finding answers that can make a real difference. Sometimes the most rewarding part is helping someone find their voice again.”
Outside the office, Willa describes herself as a fan of “big skies and small screens,” a nod to her Texas roots and love of documentaries. She's also a lifelong Shakespeare enthusiast who attended Shakespeare camp throughout high school and later returned to teach it. Other interests include strength training and experimenting with Pacific Northwest ingredients on the grill. She's happily embracing Seattle's weather and food scene, though she admits nothing quite replaces a good Austin breakfast taco.
