International Divorce and Family Law

International Families

Today's families are frequently living internationally in some way. It is not uncommon for married couples to come from two different countries, and perhaps have children born in a third. Perhaps property or business interests are owned in multiple countries, or the parties reside in multiple residences located in different countries. Although international divorce and family law are increasingly becoming more present in U.S. family law, few attorneys have experience with the international aspects of divorce and family law. Attorney David Starks of our firm is one of Washington State's most experienced international family law attorneys.

Our international divorce and family law attorneys work with treaties and the laws of other countries in order to effectively advise clients who may have international treaties or other foreign laws involved in their case. McKinley Irvin international divorce attorney, David Starks, can advise you of the strengths and weaknesses of filing your divorce or other family law action in Washington State, another U.S. state, or in a foreign country.

One of the biggest concerns for the international family law attorney in recent years has been the removal of children from the country where they have lived to another country during a custody dispute. The United States and many other foreign countries have entered into the Hague Convention on Child Abduction, an international treaty that provides for cooperation between participating nations for the safe return of children to their home country. McKinley Irvin international divorce attorneys have litigated cases involving this important treaty and are familiar with the Hague Convention, a unique area of family law. McKinley Irvin international divorce attorney, David Starks, handles all Hague Convention cases in our office and is one of the few attorneys in the State of Washington who focuses on this area of practice.

From choosing the best forum for filing, to enforcing foreign child support orders, to litigating issues regarding international treaties - our attorneys are up to date in the cutting edge area of international family law.

If you believe your divorce or family law case involves international issues, we invite you to contact our office for a consultation.

McKinley Irvin proudly serves Washington State with offices in Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, Puyallup and Gig Harbor.
