Family Law Appeals

This presentation will introduce appellate advocacy in family law cases.
Topics will include the following: how to identify whether you have an
appealable issue; advice on brief writing from a former judicial law clerk;
a behind-the-scenes look at appellate procedure and case flow; and tips
for family law attorneys on preserving the record for appeal.

Matthew Taylor worked as a civil defense litigator for many years before
focusing his practice exclusively on family law. Matt’s practice
emphasizes appellate law, LGBT family law, and UCCJEA cases. Matt serves
clients in Pierce County and King County.
Laura Sell is a partner at McKinley Irvin and active litigator of family
law cases. Laura focuses her practice on complex divorce cases, including
matters involving high value assets, closely-held businesses, professional
practices, and complex compensation structures. Laura also assists parties
in resolving family law disputes by serving as a mediator.
