Accounting Manager - Seattle

McKinley Irvin is a regional leader and we intend to grow nationally. At the same time, legal services, a highly dynamic industry, is going through an exciting time of disruption and opportunity, and McKinley Irvin is on the vanguard of this changing landscape.

We need an exemplary Accounting Manager to join our firm, and put their keen development and oversight of a well-run accounting department to work for us. This is a role for someone with outstanding organization and management experience, and who will work side-by-side with others to get stuff done. If you love shifting from strategic to tactical every day, and providing the best possible support to our firm, then this is for you.

This position is responsible for all accounting functions in a fast growing multi-office, multi-department, multi-state and, eventually, multi-entity-consolidation environment (including both long-established and start-up entities). Come grow with us to establish an accounting system infrastructure that can grow seamlessly from a regional to a national platform.

These are the key areas that the Accounting Manager will focus on:

  • Develop an effective approach and organization for performing and managing all major accounting functions: general ledger, accounts payable, client & matter records, billable time entry, WIP, billing, accounts receivable, applying client payments, client trust accounts, reconciliations, payroll, fixed assets, credit card processing, monthly close and cash management.
  • Maintain individual client trust accounts and process client trust transactions in accordance with State Bar Association policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the standard financial and budget variance reports are prepared accurately and are distributed on a timely basis. Work with department managers to reconcile budget variances.
  • Manage the Accountant position, providing coaching, performance management, and overall supervision of work and professional development.
  • Organize and prepare monthly review of financial statements, financial statement analysis, budget variances, and production reports in a timely manner.
  • Perform key duties as the administrator of the accounting system. Train new timekeepers and other accounting systems users.
  • Oversee the cash and line of credit management function. Manage and forecast operating cash needs.
  • Work with the Client Accounts Manager to ensure accurate client accounting, WIP, A/R, Trust reports and collection activity reports. Provide back-up support for processing client payments as necessary.
  • Ensure that client billing (both pre-bills and client invoices) is completed by pre-established monthly deadlines.

We think a great Accounting Manager for us will have the following background and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance is required; MBA/CPA preferred.
  • At least 5-7 years of significant high-level but hands-on experience in all areas of an accounting department.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience in a professional services environment.
  • Experience with accounting software programs and Excel required; Tableau, SQL and ADP Workforce Now experience are a plus.
  • Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational, and written communication skills.
  • Must be very active in the business and hands-on as an integral part of the management team.

What we offer:

  • A non-traditional law firm structure focused on continual growth and exciting opportunities for our employees, and outstanding service for our clients.
  • State of the art technology, resources, and support.
  • An upbeat atmosphere with enjoyable and respectful colleagues.
